The names of linoleic and linolenic FAs come from the Greek. "linon" - flax, from the seeds of which they were first isolated.
By receiving these fatty acids from the outside, incl. With food, the human and animal body synthesizes substances such as paracrine hormones, which support local immunity, take part in inflammatory and protective reactions of the skin, and also ensure the integrity and plasticity of the dermal barrier.
These hormones are also called “eicosanoids” - from the Greek. the words “eicosis” - twenty, these are molecules in the form of chains of twenty or more carbon atoms with several unsaturated bonds; The activity of eicosanoids depends on the number of these bonds.
Eicosanoids are mediators of the immune system, regulate the processes of blood circulation, breakdown and synthesis of fats, the tone of the smooth muscle muscles of internal organs, help remove toxins, in a word, make a significant contribution to metabolism and the functioning of the body as a whole.
A deficiency, as well as an imbalance, of polyunsaturated fatty acids can lead to dryness and flaking of the skin, excessive keratinization and acne, poor wound healing, hair loss, and at the systemic level - to various effects of aging (atherosclerosis, obesity, diabetes, arterial hypertension), autoimmune diseases.
