Name: Apricot kernel oil (raf)
Botanical species: Prunus armeniaca/Armeniaca vulgaris (common apricot, Armenian apricot)
Production method: cold pressing of sweet apricot kernels (contain from 35 to 60% fatty oil).
General characteristics of the oil by appearance, smell, consistency: the liquid is light yellow in color and may have a slight nutty odor.
The content of essential fatty acids in descending order:
oleic (55-70%), linoleic (17-30%), palmitic (3-8%), stearic (0.5-3%), linolenic (up to 1.5%), behenic (up to 1%), palmitoleic (up to 1%)
Unsaponifiable fraction: up to 1%, the predominant phytosterol is B-sitosterol (a plant hormone-like substance with an antiandrogenic effect).
Contains beta-carotene, phospholipids, tocopherols (gamma-tocopherol predominates).. Iodine value (the number of all unsaturated bonds): 90-112
Stable oil.
Spreadability is average, easily absorbed.
Non-drying.

In composition and properties, apricot kernel oil is close to peach and almond oil. It is considered one of the lightest oils, due to which it can be used in its pure form, as well as as a base oil, in mixtures with other oils and essential compositions. Suitable for all skin types.
