Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda, sodium hydrogen carbonate, formula NaHCO₃) is a white, odorless crystalline powder that dissolves well in water. It has a weak alkaline reaction. It is widely used in everyday life, medicine, cooking, and cosmetology.
Cosmetology Applications
1. Skin Cleansing.
Soda has a mild abrasive effect, so it is often used as a gentle scrub for the face and body. It helps remove dead skin cells and cleanse pores.
2. Fights Acne.
With its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, baking soda helps reduce inflammation and dry out acne. It is often used in masks with water or honey.
3. Skin Lightening.
Sodium bicarbonate helps to even out skin tone, lighten age spots, and reduce dark circles under the eyes (but be careful).
4. Deodorizing action.
Due to its ability to neutralize odors, baking soda can be a natural alternative to deodorants, especially for sensitive skin.
5. Hair care.
Added to shampoo to deeply cleanse hair of styling product residue. Use no more than once a week.
6. Body care.
Added as one of the main components, up to 50%, to bath bombs. Has a wow effect when immersed in the form of a geyser. Has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects on skin inflammations on the body.
Precautions
• Not recommended for use on sensitive or damaged skin.
• Frequent use may cause dryness or irritation.
