Phenoxyethanol PG (Phenoxyethanol PG)
INCI: Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Euxyl, 2-phenoxyethanol
Synonyms: phenylcellosolve, ethylene glycol monophenyl ether, euxyl, ethylhexylglycerin
Appearance: colorless transparent liquid with a balsamic aroma
Phenoxyethanol is a glycol ether that has good soluble properties in various liquids (alcohol, water, vegetable oils).
It is used in cosmetics as a preservative, antibacterial agent and stabilizer for perfume compositions. Gives an antiseptic effect, preserves properties and enhances the effect of other ingredients in the formulation.
Phenoxyethanol (conservative grade) is used for a wide range of applications:
Phenoxyethanol reliably protects cosmetics from gram-negative bacteria, yeast and molds, and is safe for children and sensitive skin.
Properties:
- protection against gram-negative bacteria;
- antifungal;
- anti-mold and anti-yeast;
- antiseptic and moisturizer;
- softening effect on skin and hair;
- fixative in perfumery;
- repellent.
Used in skin care, hair care, and foaming products. Effective against gram-negative bacteria, used as a solvent, a synergistic effect is observed when used with parabens.
Effective at pH 4-9.
Being an emollient and moisturizer, it is used in skin care products, even for children.
The standard dosage of 0.25-0.5% allows you to protect the cosmetic composition for at least six months. A maximum dosage of 1% is needed for formulas that contain a large percentage of protein or amino acids.
After research work, optimal values ??were derived that do not cause harm, and also create antioxidant protection and preserve the product for a long time.
In Europe, phenoxyethanol is allowed to be added to the formulation in up to 1% of adult non-organic skin care products, and up to 0.3% in children’s care products.
Input percentage: 0.7 -1%.
Applies to:
- as a preservative in preparations for personal hygiene;
- as a water-based latex coalescent for architectural and industrial coatings;
- as a solvent and plasticizer for nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, ethylcellulose and many vinyl, phenolic, alkyd and ester resins in water-based coatings;
- as a solvent in printing inks;
- as an emulsifier to help reduce surface tension in oil-water emulsions;
- as an ingredient in suspension compounds, used to protect metals from corrosion;
- as an intermediate bactericidal agent;
- as an additive in the paint and varnish industry;
- as a perfume fixative.
