Methylparaben (nipagin), pharm, (methyl ester of hahydroxybenzoic acid).
Added as an antiseptic and preservative to cosmetics.
Application: shampoo, lotion, creams, shower gels.
Appearance: fine crystals.
Color: white, transparent in solution.
Properties: works against the formation of gram-positive bacteria and fungi.
Soluble in: warm water, propylene glycol, ethanol.
Incompatible with cationic and nonionic substances, low toxicity.
Concentration: 0.001-0.3%, at pH<7
Recommended for use with benzyl alcohol or n-hydroxybenzoic acid propyl ester.
