Keratin is the main filamentous protein that makes up the hair shaft and nail plate. The function of keratin is to impart mechanical strength. Human keratin is similar in structure to animal keratin; it can be extracted from sheep's wool or other sources.
Keratin hydrolyzate is a product of the enzymatic breakdown of its macromolecules into oligopeptides and amino acids (glycine, serine, alanine predominate quantitatively, sulfur-containing amino acids are present).

The main use of the asset is in cosmetics for hair and nail care.

promotes hydrophobicity of the hair shaft, strengthens and thickens it; smoothes and straightens hair; protects against aggressive climatic influences. gives a light conditioning and antistatic effect; when applied to the skin there is a velvety feeling.

Fat-soluble keratin hydrolyzate can be used in oil-based or emulsion-based products:

cuticle oil to strengthen nails; balms, masks and hair conditioners; care products for hair ends, to prevent split ends eyebrow and eyelash care products thermal protective balms, creams as a moisture-retaining and conditioning agent in serums, lotions, creams. any restorative formulations, especially for damaged and colored hair superfatting additive in solid shampoos (add before pouring into molds).

Before introducing it into skin leave-on cosmetics, do a sensitivity test on the skin of the elbow (apply a drop of the active, monitor for a possible reaction throughout the day).

Do not expose to strong heat (it is advisable to add it to the composition at temperatures up to 40C)

Dosage 3 - 10%

Approximate proportions of balm components for hair ends (prevention of split ends, thermal protection):

Waxes (beeswax, candelilla, flower) – 15-20%
Cetyl stearyl alcohol – 10-15%
Oils (coconut, jojoba, crambe, broccoli) – 20-25%
Silicones (cyclomethicone, dimethicone, phenyl trimethicone) – 30-35%
Fat-soluble keratin hydrolyzate – 10%
Fragrances, essential oils, oil-based fragrances, D-limonene – up to 5%
Vit. E, preservative euxil 9010 – q.s.

Melt the solid ingredients, add oils and silicones, mix. Cool the mixture slightly (to 40 degrees C) and add keratin hydrolyzate, flavorings and other volatile components.
Pour the mixture into a jar.
