Diethyl phthalate (aroma fixative)
Odor fixer Diethyl phthalate (Phthalic Acid Diethyl Esther, Diethylphtalate, DEF, Solvanol, Estol 1550, DEP, Palatinol A, Anozol, DPX-F5384, Phthalol, Placidol E, Unimoll, DA) belongs to the esters of orthophthalic acid.
Appearance: non-toxic transparent oily liquid, colorless and odorless.
Solubility: perfectly soluble in 96% alcohol, well in water and vegetable oils.
Diethyl phthalate is one of the most well-known odor fixatives used in industrial perfumery because it is odorless and has good fixative properties.
DEF is approved for use in pharmaceuticals and medicine in the European Union, subject to established concentration standards.
Percentage of diethyl phthalate introduced into cosmetics:
- Handmade soap, shampoos – up to 1% Bath salt – 2-4 % Perfumes – 0.1-1% Cosmetics for hair styling and fixing hairstyles – up to 5% Aromatic powders – 1% Deodorized talc – 0.8% Repellents – 0.5%
